A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he's used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother's suicide. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Instead of reinventing the menu, The Bear's second season wisely opts to toss its lovable characters into another frying pan of adversity, lets 'em cook, and serves up yet another supremely satisfying dish.

The Bear: Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Simran Hans New Statesman It’s the kind of rich character development that’s missing from most TV and films. Like in a great sports movie, the thrill is in seeing each team member working in synchronicity, lest the whole performance fall flat. Jan 16, 2024 Full Review The Bear: Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Daniel Fienberg Hollywood Reporter Jeremy Allen White is still great on The Bear, but credit to the creative team for realizing that this is a show that works best as a true ensemble and not as a star vehicle with some meaty supporting roles. Dec 14, 2023 Full Review The Bear: Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Camilla Long Times (UK) It’s a show about food in which the camera itself seems starving, pushing hungrily up against its main characters as they try to resurrect their failing sandwich shop in Chicago. Jul 24, 2023 Full Review The Bear: Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Tanzim Pardiwalla Filmfare The season is packed with wonderful performances and a particularly intense holiday episode that is easily one of the most loaded moments of TV this year. Sep 20, 2024 Full Review The Bear: Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com A wonderful series that contains moments of sheer perfection. Rated: 8/10 Jul 2, 2024 Full Review The Bear: Season 2 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …the Berzatto family drama is gripping television…with choice music drops, electric acting and a wonderful sense of a small community of family and friends working together, it’s arguably the best thing on tv right now... Audience Member The last epsiode was just incredible. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/24 Full Review Audience Member Perfection would be an understatement, as not only does this season offer up some of the best performances ever seen in a TV series. It's pacing and execution all the way through never feels subpar. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Alex L Forks and Fishes were excellent Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Neil K Honestly I don't understand how this season is rated so high. It is mediocre at best to be honest. You could easily skip this season and start watching season 3 because nothing happens. There is a whole episode that is dedicated to a swearing match between Richie and Carmy and it is so hard to watch. They are just being completely immature and cringe honestly should have saved my money and time right there and then when I finished watching that episode. It starts out with just B-Roll I swear, where nothing happens and they just show what the food looks like. I get that it is a cooking show, but a whole episode where basically nothing is said? I don't get it. There's more that happens in British Bakeoff There is another episode that was directed by Ayo Edebiri that honestly is completely pointless to the whole season, and was just added to help her get her feet wet? Worst part is I don't know if it is her fault because the show was probably written like this to begin with. The fact that this show is up for an Emmy shows either how bad the other shows are or how corrupt the whole system is. Honestly the whole season could be summarized in a few paragraphs, and nothing really major even happens, they try and add some drama in the end of the season in hopes that we will watch the third. How could it get any worse? Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review JOE J Passionately acted, but very difficult to categorize it as entertaining, it even makes you wonder if there's a point about it all. Great shots of Chicago, but extremely unpleasant. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/10/24 Full Review Julie R This season is just outstanding. They really hit their stride.
